BriteSpark Films has appointed Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Tom Porter as its new Director of Programmes, it was announced today.
The post comes following Argonon recently acquiring 100 per cent of BriteSpark, which was founded as a joint venture between Nick Godwin and Argonon in 2013.
As Director of Programmes, Tom will help develop and grow the business taking it to the next level. He will oversee the new slate of programming as well as bring in new and popular commissions. His focus at BriteSpark will be on the UK market.
As Commissioning Editor at Channel 4, where he worked for six years, Tom was based in both Specialist Factual and News and Current Affairs, with commissions ranging from Guy Martin series to BAFTA-winning current affairs.
During that time his key commissions included the BAFTA/ RTS News/ Grierson/ Emmy-winning ‘Syria Across the Lines’; Grierson-winning ‘Hunted’, ‘Our Guy in China’/’Guy vs the Robot Car’; ‘The World’s Most Expensive…’; ‘Mystery of the Man on the Moor’; ‘Dogs: Their Secret Lives’; the BAFTA-nominated North Korea – Life Inside the Secret State’; ‘Politicians for Hire’, ‘Facebook: Inside the Social Network’ and joint responsibility for the forthcoming Michael Jackson doc ‘Leaving Neverland’.
Previously Porter worked as an Executive Producer at Blakeway where he managed the Dispatches slate for four years, and before that as a freelance Producer/Director, making films for Channel 4, BBC, ITV, Sky One and NHK at companies including Quicksilver, Brook Lapping and October films. He began his career as a PA/Runner at Mentorn Barraclough Carey.

Porter will take up his position from April 2019.
