Next Gen Talent celebrates exciting new talent within the Argonon Group. From interns to production secretaries, we’re highlighting some of the newest, up and coming members of the team!
This month we spoke to Jillian Degrandt, who’s just finished an internship with Nemorin Film & Video. Jillian is currently an Advertising & Film student at Boston University and is here in London on a four-month study abroad programme, of which six weeks included an internship. We chatted with Jillian about everything from her day-to-day responsibilities at Nemorin, to her love for life in London – check out the interview below!
Did you enjoy your internship with Nemorin Film & Video?
It’s been such a great experience. Nemorin has such great people to work with and I absolutely love London – my friends and I keep joking that we will not be leaving! And it’s interesting because I was able to work virtually with Nemorin last year, so it’s been really cool to meet them in person and actually go into the office.
What was your favourite part about your internship?
I think being able to go into the office. Nemorin is a very collaborative team and it’s kind of hard to experience that culture while working virtually. I was still hybrid working, but the days in the office always had great energy and it’s really fun to be a part of that.
Is the media industry something you’ve always wanted to work in?
Yeah, I feel like the ultimate goal would be something in production, but really anything creative, or anything in a creative industry.
What were your day-to-day responsibilities?
It really depended on the day, and I feel like I got to do something different each day! I did a lot of research into things, like travel, accommodation or finding production crew in other countries. I also reached out to freelancers like makeup artists, photographers and videographers, as well as some industry analysis.
What did you hope to gain from your internship?
I think mostly just knowledge about this industry in general, specifically the world of production. I feel like it’s a unique industry and that if you aren’t a part of it, you don’t entirely know how it works or what goes into it. So it’s been cool getting that sneak peek behind the scenes of how Nemorin works.
And then there’s of course, building connections, strengthening my skills and learning new ones. I’m also hoping my time at Nemorin will help me figure out what I want to do in the future since I’m about to graduate in a month!
What would your dream role be in future?
It’s so hard because I really love all aspects of production. At the moment I’m quite interested in scripted film and television!
“It’s been an absolute delight having Jillian with us. She feels like a permanent member of the team and her enthusiasm, diligence and can-do attitude means she has been a real asset to our business and our projects. I’m a firm believer in giving young people an opportunity to gain first hand, real-world production experience. I have no doubt that the insight Jillian and other interns gain at Nemorin, or elsewhere, provide a launchpad for a range of media careers.” – Pete Fergusson, Founder & CEO at Nemorin Film & Video
