Leopard leaps on tax credit

More than a quarter of the animated projects launching at this year’s Cartoon Forum are produced by UK and Irish indies, as the introduction of animation tax credits fuels a British cartoon boom.


It is not just children’s projects that have been accepted at Cartoon Forum. Leopard Films is taking BBC2 animated music special Mimi And The Mountain Dragon to the market as it looks for international partners.

The 26-minute special, based on the Michael Morpurgo book, is designed by Sylvain Chomet, the French animator responsible for The Illusionist, and written by Welsh poet Owen Sheers, with the music composed by Rachel Portman.

Leopard is now in talks with foreign broadcasters, co-producers and distributors over the family friendly show, which head of arts Fiona Morris described as the new Peter And The Wolf.
