Transparent Television goes Back to the Brothel (w/t) for Channel 4

Transparent Television, part of Argonon Group, have been recommissioned for a follow up documentary to A Very British Brothel by Channel 4.

Back to the Brothel (w/t) will return to Sheffield’s City Sauna, revealing more of the day-to-day workings of the only licensed massage parlour run by a mother and daughter duo on the city’s ‘golden mile of sex’. Operating in a converted pub, owner mum Kath and manager daughter Jenni specialise in providing the services of more mature women.

The 1x 60 observational documentary will follow the pair as they make plans to expand the business in the face of growing demand. Builders have been hired to give the establishment a much-needed makeover and Kath is now on the hunt for additional new premises.

With access to all areas of this unique and unusual family concern, contributions from the women who work there and the paying customers who visit them, Back to the Brothel (wt) will once again offer an extraordinarily frank and revealing look inside a rarely seen world.

City Sauna was first visited in August 2015 in A Very British Brothel (wt) and averaged 2.2m/12.85% (consolidated), doubling the slot average for volume (+101%) and share (+109%). The documentary was also shortlisted for a Grierson Award for Best Entertaining Documentary 2016.

Back to the Brothel (w/t) was made by Transparent Television, part of Argonon, with executive producers Jazz Gowans, Nina Davies and Mark Powell and commissioned by Channel 4 commissioning editor Ian Dunkley.
