On November 28th Leopard Pictures and Wise Music Group partnered with Peterborough Music Hub for a live performance of Mimi and the Mountain Dragon, the animated film based on the children’s book by Micheal Morpurgo. The screening of the film, adapted by Owen Shears with original music by Rachel Portman and based on illustrations by Emily Gravett, was accompanied by Peterborough Youth Orchestra performing the original score alongside local singers and professional musicians. The event included three live performances, with two fully funded afternoon screenings for 2,000 primary school children from the Peterborough area, some of whom took part in the production. The event was attended by Argonon CEO James Burstall and Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman as well as other members of the Argonon and Leopard Pictures team.
In the lead up to the event, local school children were encouraged to explore the story of Mimi through a variety of resources and activities, with the ambition of inspiring their creativity. The live show also included a musical composition, created by local children, which was designed to “scare the dragon”! This event builds on Argonon’s ongoing activities to inspire schoolchildren from all backgrounds, where in partnership with Speakers for Schools, the Argonon Group has held Virtual Work Experience Days, as well as producing creative in-school events attended by programme makers
