Building Chernobyl's Mega Tomb follows the construction of an extraordinary 36,000 tonne steel arch designed to entomb the ruins of the nuclear power plant destroyed in the 1986 disaster. We film close up with the team of international engineers as they race to build the new structure before Chernobyl's original concrete sarcophagus – built to last just thirty years – collapses. Today, radiation coming from the destroyed reactor makes it impossible for workers to build the new shelter directly over it, so they must build it 300 metres away and then slide it into position. At over three times the weight of the Eiffel Tower, and big enough to cover a football stadium, it will be the largest structure ever moved over land.
